It is a common scene in Chennai where people getting shocked after seeing the call taxi bill. It is a system generated bill and it calculates based on the kilometres. We all know it is a fair deal, but still, we still surprise after seeing the amount in the bill. 

I just wanted to share the TARIFF charged by two of the major call taxi operators in Chennai - Fast Track & NTL (New Travel Lines). This just gives us a basic idea as to how they charge and makes us plan in advance & get ourself prepared with the pre-determined amount.

Many of us might know when Namma Area Chennai was formed. But only few of us know when our sub-areas has formed and annexed to Chennai. Here I am giving the short list of the places and the year in which it was formed/annexed to Chennai. 

1639         Madras founded 

1668         Triplicane annexed to the city

1693         Egmore, Purasawalkam and Tondiarpet annexed to the City

1708         Thiruvottiyur, Nungambakkam, Vyasarpady, Kottivakkam and Sathangadu  - 

                 were annexed to the City

1735         Chintadripet was formed

1742         Veperi, Perimet, Perambur and Pudupakkam annexed to the city

1749         Santhome and Mylapore annexed to the City

1788          Thomas Parry lands in Madras and begins the oldest surviving mercantile name in
                    the city— Parry's.

1841         Ice House was built – Ice brought from America through ships was stored here;
                 Later named as Vivekananda House

1906         Guindy was formed

1946         Mambalam, Saidapet, Govt. Farm, Puliyur, Kodambakkam, 
                 Saligramam, Adayar and Alandur Villages which formed part of
                 Saidapet Municipality were annexed to the city

                 Sembiyam, Siruvallur, Peravallur, Small   Sembarambakkam
                 and  Ayanavaram which formed part of Sembium Panchayat
                 Board  were annexed to the city.

                 Aminjikarai, Periyakudal, Maduvankarai Villages which formed

Drive safely is the one thing every one is talking about. But we should not forget to walk safely. Walking in Chennai roads is never an easy job. With traffic across all the corners and the number of vehicles increasing everyday, It makes the pedestrians to take a double care while they walking and especially crossing the roads. Here are few tips which can help us cross the road safely :

Tips for the safety crossing :

• Look for a safe place to cross
• Look at both the sides of the road and listen to the traffic before crossing the road
• If any vehicle is passingby on any of the side, make way to pass it on and then cross the road
• Always look for the zebra crossing to cross the roads
• It is advisable to prefer Sub-ways & Footbridges wherever it is available
• If you feared on seeing the heavy traffic, never try to cross on your own. Wait for the other people or traffic police to help you cross the road
• Signal is not just for the vehicle drivers, its also for the pedestrians. Look at the signal before crossing the road and if the timer machine is installed in signal, make sure you have enough time left to cross the road
• Take an extra caution while crossing the one-way roads where traffic will be moving at a high speed. Make sure that road is clear before crossing
• Never hesitate to gesture your hand when the vehicle started moving in the signal while crossing the road.
• Do look for any elderly people, specially abled or persons with disability before crossing the road. Help them to cross the road.
• Don't cross at the corners and bends in the roads where vehicles taking the turn and they cannot see you in time.
• Never run while crossing the road. Be patient and wait until the road is clear. Even if the vehicles started moving in signal, stay calm and walk. Don't run.
• Be careful when crossing cycles and rickshaws, eventhough they are found less in numbers in our city. They might be travelling slowly but they do not have efficient braking system and can cause serious injuries to both.
• If you are crossing the road with a younger child, always hold his or her hand while walking and crossing on the road
• Avoid using cellphones while crossing the road.
